Jimmy Johnson Obituary

Jimmy Lee Johnson, son of the late Leland "Shine" Johnson and Parlee Manning Johnson, was bone December 18, 1958, in Oxford, Mississippi. Jimmy was known to some as "Punk" and to others as "Kountry Kool" or Yang-Yang." He confessed a belief in Jesus Christ at an early age at New Hope M.B. Church under the leadership of the late Rev. W. T. Houston

Jimmy received his formal education the the Oxford School district where he attended Oxford High School and graduated with the class of 1976. In school Jimmy was a awesome football player.  After high school, he took on various forms of employment and took pride in whatever he did, whether it was pushing grocery baskets in and out of Cash Saver, doing yard work, cooking in the correctional center (where he was head cook), or just working outside, he took great pride in it.

Working outside was Jimmy's passion. When and if he saw you working outside, he would just stop and take over, but you would have to pay him or give him a little something ($$). Which would be less than what you would have to pay someone else. Jimmy also enjoyed watching western movies, music, dancing, sipping, and being with family and friends.

On Thursday, February 27, 2025, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi, Jimmy closed his eyes and peacefully went home to be with the Lord. He leaves to cherish his memories: Seven sisters: Dorothy Hutchins Mary (Robert) Lewis, Teressa Johnson, and Mattie B. Hickinbottom, all of Oxford, MS, Mary Ann Webb of Chicago IL, Bettye Clifton of Fulton Mississippi and Charlotte Johnson Glenn of Clinton MD; Six brothers: his twin: Gene Johnson and Frankie Johnson both of Oxford MS, Ricky Joe Johnson of Chicago IL, Bobby Johnson of California and Randy Johnson. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews cousins,  other relatives, friends, and special friend: Keith (Norma) Searcy,

Jimmy is preceded in death by mother: Parlee Johnson; his father and step mother: Leland (Emma Mae) Johnson; five brothers: Raymond, Louis, Peter, Milton Wade, and Haywood Johnson and two sisters: Cho Cho Porter and Lela Mae Johnson.
