Joseph B. Fondren was born to the late Walter and Eva Brown Fondren on August 8, 1941 in Panola County, MS. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Sandy Springs A. M. E. Zion Church where he remained a faithful member until the closing of the church.
Joseph Fondren, “Paw, Paw” was a jack of all trades; from carpentry work, shade tree mechanic to hauling pulp wood. He could do it all. In his leisure time, he played the guitar and sang in a gospel group called the "Jehovah Spirituals", with his brothers. He would sit under the shade tree across from his home on Booker Road keeping an eye on the Hill and conversing with everyone that stopped under the tree.
On Monday, June 16, 2025, at Oxford Health and Rehab in Oxford, MS, the Lord dispatched out an angel to bring Paw Paw home to rest from the toils of this world. He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter: Hattie B. Booker of Oxford, MS and a son: Larry Wortham of Oxford, MS; three grandchildren: Eddie B. Booker, Jr. of Oxford, MS, Shyanne Booker of Melbourne, FL, and Pastor Darryl Booker of Oxford, MS; three great grand children: Kentavious Booker of Oxford, MS; Keyisela Booker of Melbourne, FL, and Hatalie Booker of Oxford, MS; one brother, Casey "C. B." (Annette) Fondren of Memphis, TN and long time friend and neighbor: Eddie B. (Thelma) Booker of Oxford, MS. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends
He was preceded in death by his parents: Walter and Eva Fondren; five brothers; W. O. Shorter, Walter Fondren, Jimmie Fondren, Arthur Fondren, Alvin Fondren; one sister, Fannie Mae McDonald.
Please keep the Fondren/Booker family lifted in prayer.
