Karl Lynn Thompson was the third child and first son born to the late Isaiah and Leona Buckner Thompson on December 20, 1953 in Mound Bayou, MS.
"Bird," as he was affectionately called, professed a hope in Christ at an early age and united with Saint John Missionary Baptist Church. He remained a member there until his death.
He received his early education from Johnson-Peterson Elementary and went on to Central High School. After three years at Central, the school was integrated and Karl graduated in Oxford High School's class of 1971. In November 1997, Karl was united in matrimony to Laverne Malone.
In his spare time, he enjoyed coaching baseball and softball, watching his Washington Redskins play, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was definitely the comedian of the family and his sense of humor could make anyone laugh.
On Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Baptist Memorial Hospital - NM, Karl took flight to his heavenly home. His smile, laughter, and jovial spirit will truly be missed.
To cherish his memories he leaves his wife, Laverne Thompson of Oxford, MS; children, Torrey Thompson (Victoria) of Oxford, MS and Angela Barnes (Keith) of Grenada, MS; 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; siblings, Rodney Thompson (Jenny) of Milwaukee, WI, Alphonso Thompson (Jennifer) of Las Vegas, NV, Anthony Thompson (Velma) of Oxford, MS, Gregory Thompson of Los Angeles, CA, Alfredia Herd of Oxford, MS and Barbara Norris of South Bend, IN; two aunts, Ruthie Buckner and Maggie Mae Jones both of Alton, IL, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
