Kattie Eugeania (Boles) Wells

Kattie Eugeania Wells, daughter of the late Jim and Della (Higginbottom) Boles, was born July 21, 1946, in Yocona, Mississippi. Kattie professed her faith in Christ at an early age and attended Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor J. B. Jones. She later  joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor W. T. Houston and then joined Clear Creek Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Eddie Goliday/Dr. David Anderson.

Kattie was married to Leo Wells. Sr., for 29 years and to this union four children were born. She received her GED and Associate’s Degree in Social Work from Northwest Community College.

Kattie was a woman of many titles and a servant’s heart. Throughout her life, she held various positions, working at Kellwood Sewing Factory, buffet manager at Pizza Hut, and later as evening supervisor before being promoted to Activities Director at Azalea Gardens Retirement Home. Although she loved her work with the elderly, her true passion was helping people in need.

Kattie’s home was a place of refuge for many. She opened her doors to anyone who needed a place to stay until they could get back on their feet. She never hesitated to pay a bill, buy groceries, or lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

She was a devoted member of New Hope M.B. Church, where she served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the financial board, and leader of the youth ministry. She planned summer trips to amusement parks and personally drove the church bus to bring souls to the house of the Lord. Kattie also taught Sunday School and Wednesday Night Bible Study for the children at Clear Creek. She loved encouraging the youth by bringing special treats to reward them for bringing their Bibles, completing their lessons, and learning their memory verses. Every third month, she made sure to celebrate everyone’s birthday with church-wide parties filled with love and joy.

Kattie truly loved to serve. She found peace in sightseeing, being close to nature, listening to gospel music, and spreading the Word of God. One of her favorite sayings was, “There’s no way that I’m going to eat and we all not eat!” Her life was a reflection of unconditional—Agape—love.

If she couldn’t make something happen herself, she would reach out to other churches until a solution was found. She believed that your word is your bond and was always focused on building people up rather than tearing them down. She taught her children that “can’t” is not a part of their vocabulary, because if it were, then the Bible would be a lie—and that, she knew, was not so.

Her favorite scripture was, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” After someone had tried everything their way, she would lovingly say, “Since you’ve done it your way, how’s that working out for you? Why not try it God’s way?” Even with all the good she has done, God saw fit to call His daughter home on Sunday, October 26, 2025.

Kattie leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving family: her only daughter, Andrea Wells of Taylor, MS, a Niece/Daughter she raised, TaMekia Cook Goolsby of Shannon, MS; two sons, Thomas Wells of Taylor, MS, and Leo (Wanda) Wells of Tupelo, MS; two sisters, Queen Morse of Flint, MI, and Zula (Henry) Goolsby of Shannon, MS; two brothers, Lee Russell Boles of Taylor, MS, and Jim Henry (Oreather) Boles of Flint, MI; 17 Grandchildren, nine Great Grandchildren; a Devoted Friend/Daughter, Dr. Sharon Mitchell of Baldwyn, MS; Forever Daughters, ReGina Brasell and Phyllis Wells; Bonus Sons, George Williams, Kevin Thompson, Willie Pulliam, and Rayford Cathey. She also leaves a host of other relatives and friends who were deeply touched by her kindness, wisdom and unwavering faith.

Kattie was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Lamont Wells; Parents, Jim and Della Boles; Sisters, Queen Annie Barnes, Marzella Fox, Queen Ester Boles, and Louise Leech; Brothers, Nimrod Boles, John O. Parham, James Lee Boles, and Johnny Boles.

Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched and the love she so freely gave.
