Kelvan Aundre Carter, was born January 2, 1971, in Oxford, Mississippi, to Jerlene Carter Pitts and the James Edward Carter. “Pop Daddy” or "Poppa Daddy,” as he was affectionately known by many, accepted Christ at an early age at Springfield MB Church in Abbeville, MS.
“Pop Daddy” graduated from Lafayette High School in with the class of "1990." He was employed with Whirlpool Corporation until their closing in 2008. He then worked for Volta Taverna, and he loved it there. “Pop Daddy’s” favorite activities were going out to eat with his friends, spending time with his family and traveling from town to town to hear some good preaching and singing. His favorite quartet group was Lee Williams.
Pop had the most polite and caring spirit and was loved by many. He loved, and often spoiled his mother, great nieces and nephews. Pop never met a stranger and he would go out of his way to help others. His most enduring characteristic is that even during his illness, he never complained. If you asked him how he was doing, he would say, “I'm holding on.” And that’s all we need to do. Hold on, and don’t let go.
Kelvan held on with a smile, strong faith, and with kind words to the hospital staff, his family and friends, until he departed this life on Friday, January 9, 2025, at Shepherd Hospice in Southaven, Ms. God rewarded him for holding on.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his dear mother: Jerlene Carter-Pitts of Abbeville MS; his brothers: his twin, Kelvin Carter, Ketry Carter both of Abbeville MS, Terrance (Amberly) Carter, James Pegues, Kerry Carter, and Travis Carter all of Oxford MS; sisters: Kinmarie (Tyrone) Smith of Holly Springs MS, Sheretta Carter of Oxford MS, and Crystal Ramsey of Como MS; aunts: Bernice Lewis, Mary (Gerald) Campbell, Belinda Carter and Gladys Austin; uncles: James (Ruby) Young, Cleo Young, Larry Carter, Barry Carter, Herbert Carter, and Robert Carter; a special nephew: Demerio Carter, two nieces, one great niece and three great nephews; he also leaves good friends: Judy Johnson, Wanda Jones, Bettie Sisk, Torian Vaughn, Briana McIntosh, Tony Jones and Rodney Buford; and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends.
