Kwan Derrell Petty was born on August 16, 1979, in Oxford, Mississippi, to Ruthie Genel McEwen and William Petty. He professed his faith in Christ at a young age and joined Beverly United Church.
Kwan received his formal education in the Oxford School District, graduating from Oxford High School in 1997. He furthered his education by attending Hinds Community College in Raymond, MS, and Bevill State Community College, Hamilton, Alabama. Kwan was a self-employed painter, but he was also talented in multiple skills. I guess you can say Kwan was a “Jack of all Trades.”
On Sunday, July 27, 2025, Kwan departed this life to live eternally with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his mother: Ruthie Genel; a nephew: Nehemiah Hodges; and his grandparents: Dennis and Lillian McEwen. Kwan leaves to cherish his memories his sons: Kwandarius Petty, and Kayden Petty (Myeshea); three sisters: Landria Davis, Shanda Petty and Crystal Blair; one brother: Alexus Jones; Paternal Grandmother: Annie Petty; four nephews: Makai Washington, Noah Hodges, Ian Jones, and Asher Henley; three nieces: Pia Jones, Ana Jones, and Aaliyah Blair; Special uncles: William (Bobbie) McEwen and Herbert (Brenda) McEwen; Two great-aunts: Ruby Taylor and Virginia McEwen Thomas; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Please keep Kwan's family lifted in prayer.
