Laneika Bershell Wright, daughter of Luster and Gwen King, was born in Lafayette County, Mississippi, on November 25, 1980. "Neika," as she was affectionately known, was a beautiful, joyful child. She received her education in the Oxford School district and was a graduate of Oxford High School's class of 1999, where she was a member of the OHS Band. Neika continued her educational journey receiving her B.S. Degree and Master's Degree from the University of Phoenix and University of North Carolina at Pembroke, respectively. She was currently enrolled at The University of Florida College of Education pursing a doctoral degree.
Raised in a Christian home, Laneika accepted Christ at an early age and became a faithful member of Second Missionary Baptist Church where she worshipped and sang in the youth choir as a child. She was the proud mother of two wonderful children, Cameron and Taylor.
Laneika and her family moved to Florida in 2022, where she gained employment with IMG Academy, a preparatory boarding school in Bradenton, Florida, as a teacher. Laneika was married to Alexander Wright, Jr., and with him, she gained two bonus children, Chance and Awilli.
Laneika fought a hard battle, knowing that in the end, she was going to win. On Friday morning, April 12th, 2024, while in Orlando Bay Front Hospital, she won and gained her victory wings when her battle ended. (Faith isn't about asking God to stop the storm. Faith is about trusting God to help you through the storm) Her storm is over.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband: Alexander Wright, Jr. of Bradenton, FL; her children: Cameron Davis of El Paso, TX and Taylor Davis of Winston-Salem, NC; her bonus children: Chance Wright and Awilli Wright of Jacksonville, FL; her parents: Luster and Gwen King of Oxford, MS: her sisters: Sylvia Dixon of Southaven, MS and Dr. Candy P. Jenkins of Birmingham, AL, her nephew: Brien Kimmons of Southaven, MS; and her mother-in-law: Rosanna Wright of Fayetteville, NC. She also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death are her paternal grandparents, L.B. and Bernice King and her maternal grandmother, Girtie Boone, 2 aunts and 3 uncles.
Please keep the Wright and King family in your thoughts and prayers.
