Lavern Campbell, was born to the late Calvin and Alton Booker Campbell, on November 16, 1945. She was the second of their eight children. Lavern accepted Christ at an early age and joined Beverly United Methodist Church in Oxford, Mississippi. She received her education in the Oxford School district and was a 1964 graduate of Central High School.
After high school, Lavern moved to Milwaukee, WI. After spending several years in Milwaukee, she returned to Oxford and reunited with her Beverly United Methodist Church family and served faithfully until her health failed. Lavern gained employment with Emerson Electric Company where she worked for 20 years in the Personnel Department. Later she worked in the Risk Management Division of Human Resources at North Mississippi Regional Center until retiring in 2019. If you were ever employed with NMRC, you knew Lavern, because you had to come through her. She was the "drug testing lady."
Lavern was loved by her family and friends. No one came to Oxford without stopping by the "Do Drop Inn" aka Lavern's house. This is where memories were made and shared because she kept every photo ever taken. So if you took a picture with Lavern or your picture was taken by Lavern, it's probably on the wall at the "Do Drop Inn." Lavern always remembered everyone's birthday. She would send out annual birthday cards with $1.00 in them and if you celebrated a milestone birthday, you got a raise.
On Wednesday, February 7. 2024, Lavern made her final move. She moved from Oxford Health and Rehab to her mansion in the sky. Her wish is that you "Do Drop In," She leaves to cherish her memory: brothers: Joe Lee (Bonnie) Campbell and Gerald (Mary) Campbell; sisters: Ever Lee (Lionel) Peyton and Ruby (Kalvin) Weathers; a host of nieces, nephews who affectionately called her Auntee, cousins, special friends and other relatives and friends.
Lavern was preceded in death by her parents and brothers: Booker T., Richard and Riley.
Please keep her family in your prayers.
