Mother Leona D. Harden, was born December 17, 1935, to the late Ida and Charlie G. Harden in Lafayette County, Mississippi. She joined Jeffrie Chapel Church at an early age in Abbeville MS. She served faithfully on the usher board for many years and sang in the choir.
Mother Leona graduated from the Abbeville School district. She worked at Chambers Corporation, later known as Whirlpool in Oxford, Mississippi. She also worked at Emerson Electric and with the University of Mississippi. Some of her hobbies were singing, she loved singing, reading her bible, reading the entire Oxford Eagle newspaper, watching westerns and soap operas.
On Thursday, October 19, 2023, while in her home, surrounded by her loving family, Mother Leona went peacefully to sleep and is now resting in the arms of the Lord. She is lovingly remembered and loved by her children: Linda, Jerry (Betty), Shirley (Billy), Timothy, Andrew (Janice), all of Abbeville MS, John (Diane), Stevin (Eunice), of
Atlanta GA; 19 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; two sisters: Ida Harden of St. Louis MO and Lola Gordon of Abbeville MS. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mother Leona is preceded in death by her parents: Ida and Charlie Harden; six sisters: Vera Lee Herod, Valiner, Elsie, Carliner, Lona and Rose: three brothers: Henry, Cleoven and Jimmy; two grandsons: Marcus Harden and Ketrick Hutchins; and a granddaughter: Latresa Harden.
