Lillie Pegues Obituary

Lillie B. Pegues was born on November 14, 1942, in Oxford, Mississippi, to the late Henderson and A. T. Smith. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Was always involved in the church  and raised her children up in the church and she served on the Mother Board at Union Hill MB Church.

Lillie received her education at Oxford Training School and always stressed the importance of education and training. Soon after attending school she met the love of life, who became her husband, Mr. Harmon Charles Pegues. They were married 65 years and together they were blessed with 8 children. Herman Charles preceded her in death on January 18, 2021.

Beatrice worked at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) for 40+ years at the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority house as a professional cook and baker until retirement in 1999.  She had many hobbies:  Fishing, sewing, casinos, baking her pound cakes ( always a hit) and spending time with family.  Lillie was the Queen of the castle and the permanent glue to our family.

Lillie went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 29th, 2024, in her home, surround by love ones. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her children: Brenda Pegues of Winder GA, Marilyn Pegues, Herman (Elaine) Pegues, Mark Pegues, and Markus (Lisa) Pegues all of Oxford MS, James (Joyce) Pegues of Water Valley MS and Harmel (Shanta) Pegues of Batesville MS; one sister: Leona "Sally" (Chester) Starks of Oxford MS; 22 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.

Along with her parents, Henderson and A.T. Smith, she was preceded in death by her daughter: Sharron Pegues and daughter in law: Abigail Pegues; and siblings: Jake Smith, Effie C. Smith, A.Q. Smith, Ardesie Pegues, Girlender Smith, Mary Lou Ivy and Essie Lee Archie.

Please keep the Pegues family in your prayers.
