In loving memory of Aunt Lola Mae Gordon. Born on November 2, 1940, to the late Ida and Charlie G. Harden in Lafayette County MS. She joined Jefferie at a young age where she sang in the choir and served faithfully as a choir member. As the years went on, she served as a choir president until her health failed.
Lola graduated from Abbeville school district. She worked at Jeffie Lyles Academy of Hair Design as a custodian and helped shampoo hair and whatever else help was needed. She was a housekeeper and took care of their son Brent.
Lola's hobbies were, reading her bible and studying her Sunday Shool lessons. She loved her family and spending time with them. She was a powerhouse gospel singer and would sing songs like, Count Your Blessing, Come Alone My Friends Come Alone, and I’m Just Holding On.
She loved to have fun and put smiles on people’s faces. She loved to dance, listen to the blues and gospel music. She also loved to do hair, cook, watch soap operas, baseball and basketball. She was the neighborhood mother to everyone and the most hilarious aunt that was known. Her favorite bible scripture was Psalm 23.
Lola was united in holy matrimony to Luther Richard Gordan on January 17, 1960. He preceded her in death on March 29, 2015.
On Thursday, August 7, 2025, at her great niece’s home, she departed her earthly body and went to her heavenly home.
Lola is survived by her great niece: Taneeka Tyson of Taylor MS; God-daughter: Shirley (Billy) Hutchins of Abbeville MS; God-sons: Glenn (Daphine) Gordon of Oxford, MS, and Steve (Eunice) Harden of Atlanta GA. She helped raise all her sisters, brothers and best friend, Nicy Ann Gordon's children as her own; she also leaves, In-laws: Beatrice Harden, Chicago IL, Tommy Ray Gordon, Mildred Mae (Burley) Malone, Florence Gordon and Gwendolyn Ward all of Abbeville, MS. She also leaves a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Lola is preceded in death by her parents: Charlie G. and Ida Harden; her husband Luther Richard Gordon; her sisters and brothers: Valiner, Rosanna, Carliner, Henry, Veralee, Elsie, Cleven, Jimmy, Ida Mae, Leona, Lona, Rose, and John Henry; and two great nephews: Marcus Harden and LaKetry Hutchins.
