Sis. Mary Jean Egerson Bishop was born on January 26, 1956 in Taylor, MS to the late Ora Lee Owens Egerson and Luther Egerson. Mary was a loving child and attended North Hopewell M.B. Church with her family. She later moved on with her Mother and Father as they started New Jerusalem Pentecostal Healing Temple Church of Taylor, MS. The church was led by her mom, the Late Evangelist Ora L. Egerson. Under this ministry, Mary received the Holy Ghost and was baptized. Mary met the love of her life, Jimmy Bishop and was united in Holy Matrimony September 23rd, 1973. To this union, two children were born, Jerome Bishop and Yulanda Bishop.
Mary attended grade school in Taylor, MS and later attended and graduated from Lafayette High School with the class of 1974. She went to night school at Northwest Community College and received a degree in Business Management and Administration.
Mary was employed with The City of Oxford for 28 years. She started upstairs as a drug court clerk. She later moved to the tax office, and from there she retired as a Human Resources Specialist. In her spare time Mary loved being with family, dressing up, cooking, traveling, going to church, and being with the young people.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Husband, Jimmy Bishop of Taylor, MS. A daughter, Yulanda Bishop, Taylor, MS. Granddaughters: Aaliyah Nicole Bishop (Taylor, MS), Jo’Hannah Rhea Bishop (Taylor, MS), Ariana Nicole Bishop (Oxford, MS) Grandsons: Kaden A. Bishop (Oxford, MS), Ladarian L. Bishop (Oxford, MS), Jonathon Bishop (Oxford, MS). Sisters: Frances Egerson Carothers (Eddie) Taylor, MS; Dandy Campbell (Walter), Oxford, MS, Illetta E. Woods (Norbert) Oxford, MS. Brothers: Harvey Egerson (Gloria) Racine, WI, Richard Egerson and Tyrone Egerson (Catherine) both of Taylor, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
