Mary Gipson Obituary

Mrs. Mary Louise Jenkins Gipson, daughter of the late Rufus and Bessie Young Jenkins was born September 18, 1946, in Lafayette County, Mississippi. She accepted Christ at St. Paul CME Church in Oxford, which later merged with Armstead Chapel CME Church and the two was renamed Christ Temple CME Church. Mary continued to serve faithfully under the leadership of Pastor Brian Davis, Sr., attending worship service on Sunday, May 7, 2023,

Mary received her formal education at Oxford Training School. She loved to cook and would feed whomever she thought was hungry. She was employed as a cook for the young men of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.  After retiring, Mary became a caregiver to her mother and took loving care of her until her death.

A beautiful love story: Mary married the love of her life, S T Gipson, and this union of matrimony lasted 60 years and together raised 5 children. Yes, until death do us part is what they said. S T preceded her in death in August of 2019, and she truly missed him, and on Sunday evening, May 7, 2023, the Lord saw the need to reunite Mary and S T. Not only is she with the love of her life, she's with the one who loves them most, Jesus Christ.

Mary is lovingly survived by her children: Detric S. Jenkins of Atlanta GA, Marion (Michael) Smith and Stacie Gipson both of Oxford MS; three grandchildren: Justin Hilliard, De'Marquis and Ty'Kia Gipson all of Oxford MS; two sisters: E'Lisa A. Jenkins-Vaughn and Apostle Eyvonne (Harry) Smith both of Oxford MS; one brother: Rufus Jenkins, Jr. of Oxford MS; her loving in-laws: Rudell Gipson, Charlie Gipson, Glen (Shirley) Gipson, Carlene Burt, William (Phyllis) Gipson, Deloris Willingham, Otis (Linda) Gipson, Michael Gipson, David Boone, Gatewood Boone and Carolyn Avant, and Frankie M. Jenkins of Albany NY and Hazelteen Jenkins of Oxford MS. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and church family. Mary is preceded in death by her husband, and her parents: along with two children: Iris and Corey Gipson; and two brothers: Cornelius and Kenneth Jenkins

Please keep the Gipson-Jenkins family in your prayers.
