Matthew Adams Obituary

Matthew Adams, the eleventh and youngest child of the late John Jackson and Myrie Bell Williams Adams, was born April 25, 1947, in Etta, MS.

Matthew was a life-long member of Bethlehem C.M.E. Church in Abbeville, MS, where he was an active member and served in many capacities. His favorite scriptures included Psalms 23 and Matthew 6:9-13 (The Lord's Prayer).

Matthew obtained his education at Liberty Hill High School and Central High School. He excelled in sports, especially baseball and basketball. After high school, he played baseball on community teams, coached city league basketball, and umpired city league softball games. He enjoyed teaching and passing down his knowledge of sports to his younger cousins, his sons, and anyone who wanted to learn.

Matthew had many hobbies including singing, playing pool, hunting, and watching westerns. Most importantly, he mastered his grilling techniques and loved to share his food with others. His ribs, grilled turkey, and grill chicken will be missed by many. Matthew worked for more than 40 years at Whirlpool Corporation (formerly known as Kitchen-Aid, Hobart, Chambers) prior to retiring in 2009. Matthew loved his family and his friends. He was always smiling, sharing, and caring.

Cherishing Matthew's legacy of love is his wife of 58 years, Ida Pearl Adams of Etta, MS; children: Dorine Adams of Memphis, TN, Allen (Janice) Adams of Southaven, MS, and Micheal Adams of Marion, AR; grandchildren: Kiara Adams and Keneshia Adams of Oxford, MS, Tiffanie Adams of Memphis, TN, Alexander and Madison Adams of Las Vegas, NV, and five great-grandchildren; siblings: Ada Adams and John (Selmer) Adams of Beloit, WI; brothers-in-law: Loyal Isom of South Bend, IL, and Donald (Virginia) Moore of Leesburg, VA; sisters-in-law: Alma Adams and Peggy Adams of Beloit, WI, Glories Gatewood and Kenya Wooten of Memphis, TN, and Valerie Adams of Orlando, FL; close cousins: Hullie Williams of Oxford, MS, Ronald Williams and Clarence (Vanessa) Williams of Abbeville, MS; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Matthew was preceded in death by his parents, John Jackson and Myrie Bell Adams, and his siblings, Arlilla, Arlevia, Jackson, Essie, Luke, Sallie, Willie, and William.

Rev 21:3-4: I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
