Mattie (Rockett) Houston

Mattie Rockett-Houston was born to Mr. John D. and Mrs. Emma (Norphlet) Rockett, in Taylor, MS, on June 8, 1960. On August 3, 2023, the world lost this beautiful soul, to a sudden but brief illness. She was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Rodney Houston and remained happily married until her death. Mattie’s shining light was her daughter, Danun Thomas, whom she loved dearly.

Mattie was a highly decorated and well respected educator for over thirty years, serving in the Mississippi and Virginia school systems. She will forever be remembered lovingly by her devoted husband: Rodney Houston, and her daughter Danun Thomas. She also leaves five sisters; one brother; a bonus brother/nephew; two sisters-in-law, six brothers-in-law, three aunts, two uncles, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mattie was proceeded in death by her parents, John and Emma Rockett, and two brothers: James Roy and John Edward Rockett.

 Mattie’s kindness, generosity, and patience was felt and experienced by all whom she met.
