Mattie Nell Driver, daughter of the late Owen Nelson Driver, Sr. and Minnie Lee Kirkwood Driver, was born August 5, 1935, in Lafayette County, Mississippi.
Mattie professed a hope in Christ at an early age and united with Flint Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Etta, MS and remained a faithful member until her death.
Her primary education was received from Liberty Hill School in Etta, MS. Mattie was united in matrimony to Ollie Lee McEwen and to this union, two children, Nelson Bernard and Phyllis J., were born.
Mattie was employed by the University of Mississippi for several years. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching television, particularly The Andy Griffith Show, Ellen DeGeneres, and The Talk, gardening, pruning her plants, shopping, and cooking. Her family always bragged on her good cooking.
On Thursday, March 2, 2023, Mattie passed away at her home in Etta, MS. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Nelson B. McEwen (Clara) and Phyllis J. McEwen both of Etta, MS; bonus children, Leon and Lendell McEwen of both of Michigan and Fred McEwen of Georgia; grandson, Davontae Turk of Etta, MS; siblings, Luther Driver (Bernice) of Riverdale, IL, Jettie Slate of Etta, MS, and Annie Williams of Abbeville, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mattie was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Ester Mae Driver, Gracie Mae Driver, Melver Driver Parham, Willie Pearl Driver Owens, Harmon Wase Kirkwood, Willie Wade Driver, C.L. Driver, Joe Edward Driver, and Nelson Owen Driver, Jr.
