Mealissie Retae Cathey, daughter of John Thompson and Jessie Blake Thompson, was born June 12, 1975, in Chicago IL. Retae, as she was lovingly known, was a wonderful woman. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined His Harvest Ministries and later united with Union Hill MB Church under the leadership of Pastor Porchia McGlown.
Retae received her formal education in the Lafayette County School District and was a graduate of the class of 1994. She united in matrimony to Rayford Cathey and to this union two children were born. Emerie and Emanuel.
Retae was employed with Oxford Communicare as a Shift Supervisor for SMI Women Grouphome. She loved caring for the women in the home and they loved her. Retae had a quiet spirit. She enjoyed reading, painting, doing arts and crafts, eating out and her favorite enjoyment was loving on her grandchildren.
On Tuesday morning, June 16, 2020, after a battle with that dreadful disease we call cancer, the Lord told Retae she was free. Free to go home to rest, free from sickness and pain, and free from cancer. She's now resting in the arms of the Lord saying, "I'm Free, praise the Lord, I'm free. No longer bound, no more chains holding me. My soul is resting, it's such a blessing. Praise the Lord, Hallelujah, I'm Free."
She is loving remembered by; her children: Emanuel Cathey of Batesville MS and Emerie Henderson of Oxford MS; and, Jamal Dean, Robert Liggins, Lakesha Sanford, Corlasha Hale and Shanice Smith; her husband: Rayford Cathey of Batesville MS; her father and mother: John and Jessie Thompson of Abbeville MS; and her siblings: Thaddeus Blake of Pontotoc MS, Shannon Blake of Atlanta GA, Johnathan Thompson and Jasmine Parker both of Oxford MS; her grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends along with the SMI women.
Please remember the Cathey/Blake/Thompson family in your prayers.
