Mrs. Millie Martin Morgan was born June 28, 1942 in Lafayette County to the late Oresta Martin and Mary Etta Mitchell Martin. Millie grew up in a home of strict parental guidance tempered with love, understanding, and Christian concepts.
She converted to Christianity at the age of ten and united with North Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Taylor, Mississippi. She later united with Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a faithful, dedicated and active member of the church and community. She served as a deaconess, member of the Mother Board, Director of Vacation of Bible School, Sunday School Teacher and Secretary of the Missionary Society.
Millie was united in holy matrimony to Miller R. Morgan, Sr. on December 20, 1964. To this union three children, Kelvin, Annette, and Miller Jr, were born.
Millie received her formal education in Lafayette County in Taylor, Mississippi, her B.S. from Jackson State University and other studies at Delta State University and the University of Mississippi. Her teaching career spans 32 years in the following school systems; Crystal Springs, Oxford, Water valley, Batesville, and Quitman counties. She retired from teaching in 1998.
After retirement, Millie enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her family at Pleasant Green.
She lived a life of dedication to God, a devotion to humanity, to her family and to her community. This wife, mother, and grandmother yielded to death on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Zorado Pigee, and a brother, Walter W. Martin.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Miller Rubert Morgan, Sr; three daughters, Annette Handy of Batesville, MS; Billie (Gregory) Richards of Grovetown, GA; Sue (Shirley) Ivy of Taylor, MS; three sons, Leroy (Diann) Morgan of Memphis, TN; Kelvin (Michelle) Morgan of Batesville, MS; and Miller Rubert (Kimberly) Morgan, Jr. of Courtland, MS; 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren; one brother, Sterling (Myrtis) Martin of Chicago, IL; one sister, Eulastine (Leroy Thompson) of Taylor, MS, one uncle, James E. Scott of Leland, MS; two aunts, Girlly (Robert) McGlown of Belleville, MI and Robertha Petty-Simmons of West Chester, IL; five sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, two God-children, Ollie (Adrian) Sims of Middleton, IN and Rodney (Darlene) Phillips of Water Valley, MS, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
