Monica Renee Harris

March 28, 1980 ~ January 20, 2022 (age 41)

Monia Renee Harris was born March 28, 1980, in Oxford, MS to Wallace and Mary Harris.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Saint John Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and attended and taught Sunday school. After relocating to Southaven, MS for work, Monica joined Brown Baptist Missionary Baptist Church and remained a member until her untimely death. At Brown Baptist, she was a member of the Women’s Ministry.

Monica received her education from Lafayette County schools and graduated in the class of 1999. After high school, she furthered her education by attending Rust College to study Business Administration. Later, she enrolled in Delta Technical College in Horn Lake, MS and received a license in Cosmetology.

Monica began working as a cashier at Oxford Wal-Mart when she was eighteen. Due to her knowledge and team building skills with her coworkers, she was promoted from cashier to customer service manager, to her current position of GM Coach of Wal-Mart #6964 in Horn Lake, MS. During her years of success, she achieved many accomplishments and received several awards at Wal-Mart and as a licensed stylist. She was such a workaholic.

Just as she worked hard, Monica played hard too. In her spare time, she thoroughly enjoyed shoe, purse, and clothes shopping. She also enjoyed doing hair and makeup. Monica was very family oriented and extremely close to her son, parents, and sister. She was a doting mother and her son’s biggest fan – she always attended his football games.

On Thursday, January 20, 2022, Monica departed her earthly life. Her kind spirit, beautiful smile, and unconditional love will be missed by her son, Marlon “M.J.” Jones, Jr., parents, Wallace and Mary Harris of Abbeville, MS; sister, Krissy (Montarious) Coleman of Oxford, MS; nephew, Ja’Marion Pegues of Oxford, MS; special god sister, Cornae (Montez) Johnson of Oxford, MS; fur baby, Marlo; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Veronica Harris and grandparents, William and Christine Nicks, Sr. and John and Bessie Harris.
