Murlean Pegues Obituary

Murlean Pegues, affectionately known as “Mully” or “Lean,” was born November 17, 1962, in Lafayette County, Mississippi, to the late Henderson Nolan Pegues and Pauline Hilliard Pegues.

“Mully” accepted Christ at an early age and joined Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church where she was an active member and one who served diligently and faithfully until her health failed. She served on the Kitchen Ministry, Decorating Committee, and was a dedicated member of the Missionary Ministry, with an annual award named in her honor called "The No Excuse Award."

“Lean” received her formal education in the Oxford School District and was a graduate of Oxford High School’s Class of 1980. She furthered her education at Northwest Community College where she earned several associate degrees. “Mully” gained employment with the North Mississippi Regional Center as a direct care supervisor, and she retired after 28 years of service and then became a Foster Grandparent there. Some of her other places of employment were Cobra Security and Pizza Hut on West Jackson Avenue.

“Mully” was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star – Philadelphia Chapter #287 and she was also a member of the Board of Retirees Club. “Mully” was passionate about everything that she did, including cooking, decorating, making Love Baskets or just helping others. When you saw her, she had a smile, a laugh or a joke for you. She loved spending money, traveling and dancing. She loved life.
