Nettie Jewel Townsend Ford was born April 14, 1931, in Oxford, Mississippi, to the union of Edmond and Nettie Wortham Townsend. She was baptized at an early age and became a member of South Salem Missionary Baptist Church. She was later baptized into Christ at the Rivers Hill Church of Christ. After moving to Atlanta, Georgia, she united with Avondale Church of Christ where she remained until her death.
On November 28, 1956, she was united in holy matrimony to Delbert Ford. She is survived by her two sons: Douglas (Bernice) Townsend of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Darryl (Delores) Ford of Atlanta; step-son, James (Debbie) Ford of Naperville, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Linda Carroll of Wichita, Kansas; and god-daughter, Tonya Neal of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; 10 granddaughters: Mary, Angela, Jewel, Kelli, Melanie, Kirsten, Chrystal, Michelle, Latonya, and Ravayia; four grandsons: Myles, Geoffrey, Michael Jr., and Michael (Harii); six great-grand daughters: Aniya, Amari, Aryah, Sontie, Andrea, and Dissera; four great-grand sons: Jyon, Pierre, Zachary, Princeston, and great great-grand daughter, Bella; one sister, Mary Townsend; sister in-law, Shirley Corrothers, and a host of very special nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Delbert; her parents, Edmond and Nettie Townsend; three brothers: George, Floyd, and Fred Townsend; sister in-law, Mabel Townsend, and two half-brothers: James Corrothers and George Fuller.
