Oscar Westbrook Obituary

Oscar Lee Westbrook, the son of the late Eddie B .Westbrook and Alice (Webb) McEwen-Mayes , was born in Lafayette, County, Mississippi on December 22, 1948. "Jabo," as he was affectionately known, was raised in a loving, nurturing home. He accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Tobby Tubby MB Church.

"Jabo" received his childhood education in the Oxford School system and he grew up to become a hard working man. It was said by one of his grand daughters that "he was a great, hard-working man. One who gave nothing but a lending hand and love to everyone." He was a care giver. He took care of his mother until the Lord called her home. That's love.

"Jabo" worked and retired from the University of Mississippi where he was a groundskeeper at the university's Physical Plant. As the groundskeeper, he was responsible for the care of the lawn, planting and just keeping the grounds looking good. Lawn work was his passion. He also enjoyed fishing, and helping people.

On Friday, August 29, 2025, the Lord saw fit to bring Oscar Lee "Jabo" Westbrook to a place where the grounds are always beautiful. Now all he has to do is sit on the banks and look at he beautiful lawn and fish.

He is lovingly remember by those he leaves behind: his son: Christopher Westbrook and wife Jennifer of Oxford MS; his step father: Jessie J. Mayes of Oxford MS; two brothers: Eddie L. McEwen of Oxford MS and David Westbrook of Memphis TN; three sisters: Evan. Mary Westbrook of Oxford MS, Martha (Edward) Fielder of Detroit MI and Diane Chism of Memphis TN; he leaves 11 grandchildren, four great grandchildren: two special nieces: Regina Jones of Oxford MS and Cassandra Carter of Memphis TN; He also leaves a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

"Jabo" is preceded in death by his parents: Alice (Redmond) McEwen-Mayes and Eddie B. Westbrook; his sons, Oscar "Tony' Westbrook and James E. Westbrook; his sisters, Fannie McEwen Jones-Dortch and Debra Westbrook Pryor; his brothers, Irby Westbrook, Edward "Wayside" Westbrook and Eddie "Kingfish" Westbrook, Jr.

Please keep the Westbrook family lifted in prayer.
