Pattie Gates Obituary

Pattie Lue Harmon was born October 17, 1947, to the late Jessie Calvin (J.C.) and Carlean Blackmon (Harmon) Kimmons in Oxford, MS.

Reared in a Christian home, Pattie professed her hope in Christ at a young age and was baptized at Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church. Along with her siblings, she received her education from Gordon School in Abbeville, MS.

Pattie Lue, as she was affectionately called by her family, was employed a few years at Kellwood Company.

At the age of 18, Pattie met the love of her life, R.C. Gates, and on January 10, 1966, they were united in holy matrimony. The couple soon relocated to Racine, WI and remained there for about 40 years. While in Racine, she united with Faith United Methodist Church and served on the Usher Board. She remained a faithful member until her health declined. and she returned to Oxford. It was no secret that Pattie was a “momma’s girl,” therefore, it was no surprise that her mother went to Racine to get her ‘baby’ when her health failed. After the death of her mother, Pattie would often say “I’m ready to home with “Mur.”

Once she moved back home, she and her brother, Calvin, Jr., (as she called him) became very close. They shared countless hours in her room at Oxford Health & Rehabilitation singing, praying, talking, and laughing. Oh, what joyous times!

Pattie had a jovial and cheerful spirit. She always had a beautiful smile, and her laughter was infectious. Some of her favorite past times were cooking, fishing, watching Venus & Serena Williams, watching the Green Bay Packers play, listening to music, particularly the blues and gospel. Pattie was also very family oriented and had a true love for parrots.

On Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi, Pattie answered her Master’s call and was able to “go home and be with [her] “Mum.” She will be missed by those who loved her most. Left to cherish her memories are her stepdaughter and grandson, Shelia Stokes and JaCari Stokes both of Memphis, TN; godson, Thomas Anderson of Gilbert, AZ; brother, Calvin Harmon, Jr. (Bernice) of Abbeville, MS; sisters, Bernice Harmon of Madison, AL, Diann Newson (Chester) of Sardis, MS, and Mae W. Lester of Southaven, MS; sisters-in-law, Mary Anderson of Racine, WI, Dorothy Smith of Oxford, MS, Flossie Ragland (Charles) of Water Valley, MS, Shirley Mitchell of Taylor, MS, Alma Higginbottom of Abbeville, MS, and Dorothy Harmon of Como, MS; brother-in-law, Dewain Gates of Abbeville, MS; special friend/caregiver, Lucy Martin of Abbeville, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Pattie was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Robert Harmon, Lewis Harmon, Terry Kimmons, and Calvin D. Harmon.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
