Lafayette County native, Robert Earl Jones, son of Hugh Lee ("RIchard") Jones and Ina Mae Nolen, was born July 9, 1948, in Etta, Mississippi. Robert confessed a hope Christ at an early age and joined Beverly Chapel U.M. Church where he remained a member until his death.
Robert attended Central High School where he was a star athlete for the Central High Eagles basketball team, claiming the position as center. In school Robert was given the nick name "Hogg" by his team mates and the name stuck with him there after.
Robert was a jack of all trades but his best skill lead him to become an auto mechanic. He performed this job until he was no longer able, and he retired. On Sunday, May 3, 2020, at his physical home, the Lord called Robert to his eternal home, and now he's at rest. He is lovingly remembered by his wife: Inella Shaw Jones of Abbeville MS; his sons: Robert Earl (Carolyn) Jones, Jr., of Abbeville MS, Duran (Tessa) Jones and Robert Lewis Jones both of Oxford MS; his daughters: Idella Jones (Joe Baskin) of Abbeville MS and Latrisha Lewis of Oxford MS; six sisters: Mae Frances Mitchell, Ina Louise Bibbs and Marcia Bibbs of Oxford MS, Linda Jones and Sharon Flowers of Racine WI and Shelia Brown of San Diego CA; 12 grandchildren, three great grandchildren. a very special friend, companion and caregiver: Rita Lewis of Oxford MS and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Jones and Ina Nolen Bibbs; five brothers: Hugh Lee Jones, Jr., Haywood Lee Jones, Wallace Diggs, Nuell Jones, and Curtis Bibbs; and a sister: Orlean Patricia Jones.
