Russell Buford

  Russell Buford was born in Lafayette County Mississippi on January 25, 1945, the tenth of eleven children. His parents were the late Gable and Mealie Buford.

Russell and his wife, Marilyn G. Buford were married for fifty years this year 2020. To this union they were blessed with one daughter and two sons.

Russell accepted Christ at an early age and joined Buford Chapel United Methodist Church in Oxford, MS and remained there until his death.

Russel graduated from Central High School in 1964. He retired after 31 years as a Supervisor from Emerson Electric Co. He served his country faithfully and honorably in the United State Army and was a retired veteran.

On Sunday, August 16, 2020 in Baptist Memorial Hospital/NM, Russell went peacefully to be with the Lord.

He will truly be missed by his loving wife: Marilyn G. Buford of Oxford, MS; his children: Rev. Paulette Buford-James (Darryl) of Starkville MS, Targanar ‘Todd’ Buford (Kimberly) of Memphis TN and Robert Gabriel Buford of Oxford MS. His cherished grandchildren: Octavia Shuntel McEwen, Jamal Gabriel Buford, Amya Monyee Buford, Tara Danielle Loggins, and Robrae Gabriel Buford. Siblings: Alex, Thomas, Robert Calvin (Faye), Napolean Buford all of St. Louis MO and John E. Buford of Batesville MS, along with devoted sister-in-laws, a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and classmates.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Gable and Mealie Buford and siblings: Jerome, Willie D., Gracie, Mary and Lee Anna.
