Russell Fitzgerald Kelly

Russell Fitzgerald Kelly, the son of Dorothy Jean Kelly Kuykendall and the late Sylvester Bailey, was born on September 18, 1967, in Water Valley, Mississippi. At an early age, he accepted Christ and joined Everdale Missionary Baptist Church.

A proud 1986 graduate of Water Valley High School, Russell played basketball and football and also ran track. He was a hard-working man, dedicated to his job at Ashley Furniture in Ecru, MS, where he worked until his health declined.

Russell married Vanessa Robinson in 1998, and they shared one daughter, Brittney. He was a loving person - generous, humble, and always willing to help others in any way he could. Children gravitated to him, and he loved them just as deeply in return. He was always there for his family and friends — whether offering steady support or simply sharing a laugh. Russell was a dependable and joyful presence. He never complained, no matter the circumstance, and carried himself with quiet strength and a warm, easy-going spirit.

He had a deep love for wrestling, SEC football, and keeping up with the news. He was a pleasant person to be around.

On Tuesday, July 29, 2025, Russell went home to be with the Lord. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Vanessa R. Kelly of Water Valley, MS; his son, LaQuinton Horton of Oxford, MS; two stepchildren, Marcus Robinson of Water Valley, MS, and LaQuea Robinson of Birmingham, AL; one granddaughter, Aubrianna Horton of Houston, TX; his mother, Dorothy Jean Kelly Kuykendall (Rush) of Water Valley, MS; one sister, Kristen Kuykendall of Water Valley, MS; three brothers, Tyrone Kelly and Marvin Kuykendall of Houston, TX, and Kevin Kuykendall of Water Valley, MS; two aunts, Nellie Kelly and Ella Stovall of Bruce, MS; and a host of other relatives, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Russell was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Brittney Robinson; his stepson, Rodney “Zay” Robinson; his father, Sylvester Bailey; his sister, Tamara Kuykendall; his nephew, RaShad “Bubba” Campbell; and several cherished aunts and uncles.
