Sammie Lee Booker was born August 26, 1953 to the late Sam and Mary Catherine (Hickinbottom) Booker in Oxford, MS.
He loved to work, from tree-cutting to working in a factory to carpentry. He worked in the family business operating a pulp-wood truck until relocating to Indiana. His favorite hobbies were fishing, landscaping and putting up Christmas decorations.
Sammie’s favorite phrase was, “Time and patience.” His favorite song was “Sexy Thing” by Tyrone Davis as it was the song playing when he met his wife, Mary.
Sammie was a family man who took time to pass on his knowledge, experience and work ethic to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He lovingly called them by the nicknames he had picked for them.
After a three year battle with cancer, Sam went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 16, 2022, surrounded by his family and friends, in West Lafayette, IN.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Booker, his daughter, Delicia “Poochie” Booker, his son, Perrell “Boot” Arnett, his step-children (who he considered his own), Lisa “Oldest Daughter” Arnett, Felicia “Tall Girl” Arnett, TreeCee “Worm” Arnett, LeeShawn “Big Boy” Arnett, 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, his brothers and sisters, Mary Ann (James) Williams, Eddie (Thelma) Booker, Lucas Earl (Brenda) Booker, Juanita (Jessie) Pearson, Paul (Lee) Booker, Trina (Eddie) Moody, Thomas (Lassandra) Booker, Hittie (Leodis) Adams, Candy Booker, and 23 nieces and nephews, sister-in-law, Betty McGhee, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Sammie is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mary C. Booker, his sister, Bessie Booker, and his brother, Samie “Big Samie” McGhee.
