Shantel Sherece Gaters was born January 11, 1982, to Bertha L. Gaters and Leonard Earl Ivy, Jr in Oxford, Mississippi. She was baptized at an early age at East St Peter M.B. Church. She later united with Philadelphia M.B. Church.
Her family moved to Huntsville, AL where she graduated from Butler High School Class with the of 2000. She loved basketball, cheerleading and ran track. She worked in retail throughout the Huntsville area. Shantel loved to dance, sing and really enjoyed cooking and wouls call her family to let them know she had cooked. She also loved to draw flowers for her daughter.
On Saturday, December 20, 2025, Shantel was called home to be with the Lord and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Shantel leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter: Kamyia Gaters, Huntsville, AL; her mother: Bertha L. Yarber, Huntsville, AL; her father and stepmother: Leonard (Dorothy) Ivy, Jr., Oxford, MS; her sister: Whitney Yarber, Huntsville, AL; four brothers: Alfonzo Yarber, Jr., Wesley (Makayla) Pegues, Leonard (Eneshia) Campbell and Christopher (LaTisha) Vaughn, all of Oxford, MS; Her grandmother: Annie L. Gilliom, Oxford, MS; her favorite aunt: Annie Louise Gaters, Memphis, TN; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents: Curley B. Gilliom, Leonard and Mattie Sue Ivy; her stepfather: Alfonzo Yarber; and her sister: Lakesha Harwell.
