Shelia Hill Obituary

Sheila Anne Jackson Hill was born in Oxford, Mississippi to the late Zula M. Jackson and Johnnie F. Jackson.  She was the 4th of six children in her family. She was married to Jessie Lee Hill and divorced in her early twenties. However, they remained close friends until his passing in 2016. Sheila accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Second Missionary Baptist Church in Oxford, Mississippi.

Shelia was a devoted daughter, friend, sister, mother, and grandmother. As a child, she enjoyed reading and being a part of the close knit “alley crew” which included the Phillips, Bookers, Boone, Hilliards and others. They had a club house in the Booker’s back yard and a park in the Phillips back yard. She and Barbara Ann Phillips were always plotting about something which seemed to involve seeking adventures on the Oxford Square. Her favorite class was Home Economics where she learned to be an expert seamstress.

As a graduate of Ole Miss, she explored being an early childhood educator, and soon determined that that was not her calling. She explored an administrative role at Emerson Electric, then moved into the insurance industry, in which she held several positions in several cites over her career. Sheila’s professional journey ended with a position as a Senior Special Risk Underwriter at the Louisiana Workers Compensation Corporation (LWCC) from 1992 to her retirement to 2022.

Sheila was truly an extraordinary person who went about life quietly sprinkling her generosity, kindness, compassion, and dedication to everyone and everything she touched. She donated to numerous charities and her innate sense of individuality enabled her to really see a person for who they were. It was evident in how she would express love for you when she purchased a card, selected a gift, sent a text or GIF-- always with a “flour-de-les” symbol.

When she made up her mind, nothing could stop her. From her first job as a babysitter, to position at Sonic, to her professional roles in the insurance industry, she gave her best every day and never called in sick. She role modeled professionalism and commitment.  She was a member of the International Association of Insurance Professionals for thirty plus years and was certified as a Professional Insurance Woman.

In her leisure time, she would be participating in charity walks/runs or volunteering in community events. She was very routine-oriented, never missing her daily workouts, talking on the phone with her family or friends, watching old TV reruns, attending concerts, and catching the latest movie. She loved attending her Central High School Class Reunions!

Sheila would describe her most important role in this world as the protector and provider for her daughter and grandchildren because they were her world. When she talked about them, she always described their unique accomplishments. She was their role model, their rock, and their refuge.

Sheila was always about others and never about herself, she was frugal, fruitful, funny and very private. She was an extremely devoted Mom and Grandmommy who never missed an important event, especially a birthday, graduation, Christmas or a simple need for assistance. Her determination is something that passed down to her favorite daughter. She was simply amazing, always gave exactly what was needed, and kept everyone grounded.

Sheila leaves to cherish her memories a devoted loving and caring daughter: Leontyne Hill, Lilburn GA; Siblings: Norris Jackson McReynolds, Los Angeles CA, Jonnie Jackson (Edward) Cole both deceased, Ruby Humphrey- deceased, Marjorie Beckum (Theodore, deceased) Florissant MO, Jimmy & Vivian Carrouthers (both deceased) Virginia Beach VA, Jennifer Robinson (deceased) (Garland) Jackson MS, Sharron Jackson Coffie, Little Elm TX and Vanessa Jackson (deceased) Jackson MS.  Grandsons: Brandon Matos, Lilburn GA, Richarde Hill (Kaytlee Hill & grand-dog, Tito), San Antonio TX, Clifton Jaylan Henderson, Baton Rouge LA, Cirajah Henderson, Lilburn GA: Nieces: Danette Beckum, Hazelwood Mo,  Tiffinie Davis, Tonette Carrouthers and Tamara Stancell, Virginia Beach VA, Angela Marshall, Bolingbrook Il, and Nyla Coffie, Brooklyn, NY; Nephews: Errol Beckum, Arlington TX, Kevin Robinson and Brett Robinson, Jackson MS and Deron Coffie, Seattle WA and a host of cousins, great nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
