Stella Jean Murray, born January 19, 1955, entered eternal rest on March 28, 2026. A native of Lafayette County, Mississippi, she was the beloved daughter of Joseph Earl Townsend and Earlene Pegues, both of whom preceded her in death.
Stella attended Lafayette High School, completing her studies through the 12th grade. She later dedicated nearly three decades of service to Baptist Memorial Hospital, where she worked faithfully from 1979 until her retirement in 2008. Her kindness, steady presence, and strong work ethic left a lasting impression on coworkers and patients alike.
A devoted member of Oxford First United Methodist Church in Oxford, Mississippi, Stella lived her faith with quiet strength and sincerity. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures — watching television, playing cards, listening to gospel music, and attending gospel programs that uplifted her spirit.
Stella leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Hubert Murray; her devoted son, Neil (Shelia) Murray; and her three precious grandchildren, who brought light and joy to her life. She is also survived by her brothers, Walter Townsend and Melvin (Joyce) Westbrook; and her sisters, Georgia (Link) Archie, Bertil Cook, Dollene (William) Murray, and Annie Pearl (Scott) Wortham.
She is remembered fondly by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever hold her gentle spirit close to their hearts.
Though she is no longer present in body, Stella’s legacy of love, faith, and kindness will continue to live on in all who knew her.
