Susie Lee Hewlett was born September 23, 1938, in Lafayette County, MS to the late Jimmie and Orean Wadlington Hewlett.
Susie Lee was reared in a Christian home. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Clear Creek M.B. Church and remained a member until her death. She received her education from Oxford Training and Springhill Schools.
She was a superb cook and gained employment at Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority House on the University of Mississippi.
“Mudea,” as she was affectionately called by her family, was united in matrimony to the late James L. Thompson and to this union 13 children were born.
Susie Lee was such a people person and never met a stranger. She always loved to be around her grandchildren. In her spare time, she found solace in working in her flower garden and walking. She also enjoyed being a foster grandparent for North Mississippi Regional Center.
On September 18, 2021, Susie Lee passed away at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi in Oxford, MS. Left to cherish her memories are her children, Leon Thompson, Lewis Thompson, Roy (Terri) Thompson, Linda (Charles) Fox, Alisa Thompson, Barbara Thompson, Kristie Thompson all of Oxford, MS, James Nelson Thompson of Arlington, TX, Neal (Linda) Thompson of Abbeville, MS, Marcus Thompson of Southaven, MS, Earlene Thompson of Bartlett, TN, Vickey Thompson of Fayetteville, GA, and Tammie (Chris) Hairston of Taylor, MS; 25 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; brother, James “Jake” Hewlett of Oxford, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, great grandchild, Arihanna Woodall, siblings, Jimmie Lee Hewlett, Booker T. Taylor, Fairybell Carothers, Altha Mae Watters, Amy Patton, and Fannie Yankaway.
