Ulyses "Sheen" Burt

Ulyses ‘Sheen’ Burt, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2024.  

Born on August 2, 1947, to Russell and Marie (Morgan) Burt in Oxford Mississippi, Ulyses found his faith early in life, confessing his hope in Christ at Clear Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Oxford, Mississippi. He later relocated to Aurora, Illinois, where he became a dedicated member of Progressive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Robert Wesby and later Dr. Roy R. Brown. He served faithfully as an usher for many years and never lost his love for gospel music which brought a smile to his face. 

One of twelve children, Ulyses possessed a natural curiosity and a love for working with his hands. He could take anything apart and put it back together. A talent that extended to his passion for cars. When outdoors, you could often find him enjoying nature or dominating the bowling alley with his signature curved ball. He was also a talented cook who enjoyed creating delicious meals and sharing them with his family and friends. For over 30 years, Ulyses was a dedicated employee at Allied Lock in St. Charles, later relocating to Dixon, Illinois. He retired in 2015, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication. 

He leaves to cherish his memory: his children: Ulyses Patrick (Feleisha) Burt Jr. of Detroit MI, Vanessa Burt or Redford MI, Valerie (Charles) Burt of Oxford MS, Rachel (Jaymes) Waller of Aurora IL, and Shala Carter (bonus child) of Houston TX; his grandchildren: Brittiny, Brandi, Shanita, Jaymes II, Jaxson, Pa'Jaye, Jada, and Aria; his great-grandchild: Jaylen; his sisters: Hattie Mae Fondren of Batesville MS, Mary Market Burt and Gwen Trotter both of Chicago IL, Margret Burt of Atlanta GA, Lois Burt of Aurora IL, and Dessie (Jimmie) Jones of Oxford MS; his brothers: James (Mattie) Burt of Oxford MS, Johnny (Jean) Burt and Andrew (Betty) Burt both of Aurora IL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. 

He is preceded in death by his brothers: Willie and Leslie ‘Preacher’ Burt and bonus son: Gabriel ‘Punch’ McKinney. Ulyses will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
