Virgie Lee (Childs) Smith

Mrs. Virgie Lee Childs Smith, daughter of Louis and Mary Alice Childs, was born August 2, 1933 in Indianola MS.  She accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. John Baptist Church. She worked at Holiday Inn and in 1959 she married Cornelius Smith, Jr., and they moved to Milwaukee WI and to this union 10 children were born. They remained there for about 38 years. After the demise of her husband, Mrs. Smith moved to Water Valley MS and began worshiping with the South Hopewell MB Church family under the leadership of Pastor Terry Wortham.

She went peacefully to sleep early Sunday morning, May 6, 2018, in her home. She is lovingly remembered by her Children: Mary (Fred) Joiner, David Jones Childs, Macknola Brooks, Linda Nickolson, Sammy (Tammy) Smith, and Percy Smith; 35 grand and over 101  great and great great grandchildren; siblings: Mary Ann Smith, Dave Childs, John (Christina) Owens, J.C. (Bertha), Preston (Vivian), Jackie (Ella), Gloria (Albert), Arie, Helen, and Nicista;  and other family members.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents,: Louis and Mary Alice, and three children: Irene, Brenda and Vergie; and siblings: Louis, Louis Jr., Mary Alice and Orda.

The only viewing for Mrs. Smith will be on Monday at South Hopewell 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Services will begin at 1 pm.
