Walter Mathis Obituary

Walter Ne'Patrick Mathis, son of Rubbie Mathis Campbell and Cornelius Burt, was born on August 29, 1980, in Water Valley, Mississippi. He was raised in Abbeville, Mississippi in a loving home, and accepted Christ at an early age at Jeffries Chapel MB Church where he became a member.

Walter received his formal education in the Lafayette County School district at Lafayette High School. He furthered his education through Job Corps in Memphis, Tennessee. Later, Walter gain employment at Winchester Corporation where he worked for many years. He was an avid fan of his favorite college football team, the Georgia Bull Dogs "GO DAWGS" and his favorite NFL team, the Atlanta Falcons. Walter also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends,

On Monday, September 9, 2024, while in Baptist Memorial Hospital/NM, the Lord saw fit to call Walter, "Patrick," as he was affectionately known, home to be with Him. He leaves to cherish his loving memory, a special friend: Jessica Coleman of Oxford, Mississippi; his mother: Rubbie Mathis Campbell; his father: Cornelius Burt of Orlando, Florida; two brothers: Napoleon (Ebonee) Mathis and Duyrea Campbell, both of Oxford MS; his sister: La-Classie Mathis (Sherman) Cotton of Oxford, Mississippi; his grandmother: Mae Anna Mathis of Abbeville Mississippi; a niece: Nasia Thompson; a nephew: Napoleon Mathis, Jr. both of Oxford, Mississippi; Aunts: Dorothy (John) Pegues and Nora Taylor, both of Oxford, Mississippi; Uncles: Walter (Josie) Mathis of Batesville, Mississippi and Danny (Martha) Burt of Memphis, Tennessee, and Jerry Burt and Eric Burt both of Oxford, Mississippi; Great Aunts: Ethel Malone of Abbeville, Mississippi and Classie Washington of St. Louis, Missouri. He also leaves a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Patrick is preceded in death by his grandmother: Mary Alice Burt; Grandfathers; J.W. Mathis and Malcom Burt; his aunt: Betty Burt Campbell; Great Aunts: Maggie Jones, Ruby Washington, Fairsteen Mathis, Gracie Kelly and Alberta Ivy; Uncles: Ricky Mathis, Michael Burt, and Greg Burt; Great Uncles: I.C. Malone, Isiah Malone, Joe Bill Mathis, Felton Mathis, Charles Mathis and Guy B. Porter.
