Wanda Houston Obituary

Wanda Sue Houston was born July 23, 1959 in Water Valley, MS to the late L.D. and Myra Eulean Brazell Turner.

"Sue," as she was affectionately known, professed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined South Hopewell M.B. Church. Later, she joined New Hope M.B. Church and Union Hill M.B. Church, serving on the Usher Board at both. She was an active member of New Bethel M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor Eric Wilson, where she also served on the Usher Board. She remained a faithful member until her untimely death. She was united in matrimony to Melvin Houston.

Sue received her formal education at Lafayette County and Oxford City school districts. She developed her love for basketball and excelled in it. She was such a team player on and off the court, personally, professionally, and spiritually.

Sue also had a great love for children and always opened her door to anyone. Her unwavering love and nurturing spirit exuded throughout her life. Acting on her love to care for others, Sue became a Certified Nurse Aide and gained employment at The Blake Assisted Living Center.

She enjoyed playing and watching basketball, the Golden State Warriors and UConn were her favorite teams. Fellowshipping with family was a big part of Sue’s life and she was known for her ‘famous spaghetti’ among them.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Ulice Doyle Turner and her grandmother, Ceola Willingham.

On Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at St. Dominic Hospital, Jackson, MS, Sue peacefully transitioned from her earthly life to eternal life. Cherishing her memories are her husband, Melvin G. Houston - Oxford, MS; one son, Cecil Turner, Jr. - Oxford, MS; two daughters, Kandace (Jeremy) Howard - Hampton, VA and Krystal (Robert) Vaughn - Fort Stewart, GA; special daughter, Kennedy Wigginton - Chattanooga, TN; three grandchildren, Jalen, Kalie, and Kaori Howard - Hampton, VA; six brothers, Joseph (Shelia) Turner - Water Valley, MS, Curtis Turner - Taylor, MS, Cecil Turner - Baton Rouge, LA, Kyser Turner - Abbeville, MS, Billy (Juanita) Brown – Oxford, MS, and Harvey Brown – Maywood, IL; four sisters, Diana Franklin - Taylor, MS, Ceola (Xtopher) Anikweze - Taylor, MS, Elaine Willingham – Oxford, MS, and Lorrie Ann (Mike) Isom – Marshall, TX and a host of other relatives and friends.
