Willie Buford Obituary

The life of Willie Lois Buford stands as a testament to purpose, resilience, and steadfast commitment. Her presence carried quiet authority, her actions reflected discipline and service, and her legacy endures in the many lives shaped by her example.

Her journey began on October 9, 1938, in Oxford, Mississippi, as the daughter of the late Edger and Fannie (Webb) Buford. As one of thirteen children, she learned early the values of responsibility, perseverance, and family unity.

Willie Lois accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at Jordan Chapel CME Church, the spiritual foundation that guided her throughout her life. On Friday, January 2, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital/NM in Oxford, Mississippi, she completed her earthly journey and entered eternal rest.

Her life was marked by dedication and consistency. She served with honor in custodial services at the Pi Beta Phi Sorority at the University of Mississippi, where her strong work ethic and reliability earned the respect of colleagues and students alike. She was also a devoted Heroine of Buford Chapel Court 562, serving with dignity and purpose.

A true lover of children, her home was the gathering place for grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great‑nieces, great‑nephews, and neighborhood children alike. Her door—and her heart—were always open. Even after retirement, her calling to nurture continued as she became a phenomenal foster parent to children throughout Northern Mississippi. Among those whose lives she touched deeply were Katilyn Boles and Castle Brassell, who carried her influence with them long after leaving her care.

Beyond her service and responsibilities, Willie Lois found joy in simple, meaningful pleasures. She tended her garden with care, taking pride in the beauty she cultivated. She also treasured traveling with her grandchildren, especially their memorable trips to St. Lucia and Hawaii—experiences she recounted with warmth and delight.

Her devotion to Jordan Chapel CME Church was unwavering. She served faithfully on the Trustee Board until her passing and previously held roles as President of the Usher Board and as a stewardess. Beyond her church, she was an active and respected figure in her community, serving as President of the Western Hills Association and working diligently to support and strengthen her neighborhood.

Family remained central to her life. She valued unity, tradition, and the importance of responsibility. Through her guidance, presence, and commitment, she provided stability and continuity for those around her.

During her life, she was preceded in death by ten of her siblings; her son, Leslie Buford; and a loving granddaughter, Kimberly Carmen Buford-Patterson; along with a host of nieces and nephews. Left to honor her memory are her sister, Minnie Mae Buford of Oxford, MS, and her brother, Thomas Buford of Jackson, MS; her children, Melvin Buford (Debra) of Springfield, VA, Christopher Buford and Cara Lisa Buford Hilliard (William) of Oxford, MS, and Willie K. Buford of Grenada, MS; her granddaughters, Lauren Buford-Pointer (Lyle) of Ashburn, VA, Keyonna Hilliard and Kara Hilliard of Oxford, MS, Alyssa Lewis-Buford and Nicole Buford of Grenada, MS; and her newly born great‑grandson, Theodore Alexander Pointer of Ashburn, VA. She also leaves behind many other relatives and friends who cherished her.  Willie Lois lived with intention and conviction, serving her family and community with distinction. Her legacy remains firmly rooted in the countless lives she strengthened along the way.
