Willie E Dennis

Willie Dennis, son of the late Girt and Magnolia Dennis was born in Abbeville, Mississippi, September 5, 1937.

He confessed Christ at an early age and joined East St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully. Willie received his education in the Lafayette County School and graduated from Oxford Training School where he played football.

Willie was united in holy matrimony to Bernice Dennis and this union was blessed with five children. Willie was a devoted husband. His wife, Bernice preceded him in death after 60 years of marriage. He was the most devoted father and grandfather. He enjoyed gardening, raising cattle and helping others. He was employed with the University of Mississippi as a custodial supervisor for 30 plus years before his retirement.

On Monday, August 21, 2023, Willie Dennis went home to be with the Lord and to be united with his wife, Bernice. He was surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his children: Willie (Jean) Dennis, Patricia Pegues, Brenda (Michael) Slate and Gregory (Shirley) Dennis all of Abbeville MS and Shawana (Lemond) Brownlow of Brandon MS; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He also leaves his sister: Maggie Ivy and his brother: Lenzo Dennis both of Abbeville MS; his in-laws: Minnie (Harold) Cooper and Bessie (Avery) Dunn of Oxford MS, Gordon (Pat) Jones of Rock Island IL, Zannie Mayes, and Sandra Dennis of Oxford MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Willie is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, along with siblings: Louise Malone, Alberta Mayes, Gert Dennis, Jr., and Wade Dennis; son-in-law: Edward Pegues; sister-n-law: Eva Dennis; brother-in-law: Russell Ivy and grandson: Bobby Young.
