Willie M. Tyson

March 16, 1944 ~ January 26, 2022 (age 77)

Obituary

Willie Maebelle (Burt) Tyson was born to the late Ladell B. Fisher on March 16, 1944 and raised by her grandparents Ed and Mary Quay Burt.  She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Hope M. B. Church where she was a faithful member until her health failed.  As a member of Mt. Hope, she served in the Mission Ministry and was a former member of the mass choir.  She was also a member of Taylor Court #95 Heroines of Jericho.

Willie Maebelle received her education at Taylor Vocational School in Taylor, MS.  Later, she married Alfred Tyson, Jr. on January 20, 1963, and took up residence with her husband’s family until they built their own home and to this union 10 children were born.  She was a homemaker, beautician, tax preparer, and bookkeeper for S&T Logging.

After the birth of all her children, she started working at North MS Regional Center in 1974 and later completed her GED in 1978.  Willie was employed with NMRC for 29 ½ years before retiring after the death of her youngest daughter, Wanda, to become legal guardian of her two children, Keeyon and Camry.

Willie Maebelle was cofounder of the Burt-Mosley-Ivy (BMI) family reunion and truly enjoyed sharing her vast knowledge of family history with everyone interested in listening. She was an 18-year breast cancer survivor and never missed an opportunity to motivate, inspire and impart wisdom.  She always impressed upon her children that they could agree to disagree but LOVE ONE ANOTHER.  Affectionately known as “Bigma” to all her grandchildren, “Puddin” to neighborhood families and “Maebelle” to coworkers and friends, she enjoyed family time, gospel singings, 5th Sunday dinners and most of all reading the Bible.

On January 26, 2022, Willie Maebelle transitioned from this earthly home to her Heavenly home.  She had a big heart full of genuine love and compassion for everyone--treating everyone the same, with love.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband of 59 years Alfred Tyson, Jr. of Taylor, MS, children, Callie (Rochester) Brassell, Sheryel (Lorenzo) Green, Alfred (Annie) Tyson III, Angelia Tyson, Mary (Robert) Hubrins, Martin (Patricia) Tyson, Girlinda Tyson, Shelia Tyson, and James Tyson, all of Taylor, MS; 27 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Also, left to cherish in her memories are 2 sisters, Lonnie Moore, of Racine, WI and Lorraine (Joseph) Wilson, of Taylor, MS, 7 brothers, Elmer (Belvia) Shaw, James (Martha) Shaw, Howard Fisher and Charlie Fisher, all of Taylor, MS, Roger (Beatrice) Shaw, Rodney Shaw, and Willie Fisher Sr. all of Racine, WI, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Willie Maebelle was preceded in death by her mother, Ladell Fisher, her daughter, Wanda Tyson and 2 great grandchildren, Ida Booker, and Jadyn Tyson.
