Martha Helen Jones

January 1, 1939 ~ April 6, 2021 (age 82)


Martha Helen Townsend was born January 1, 1939 in Lafayette County, MS to the late Cordis Townsend and Daisy Coruthers Townsend.

Martha professed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined South Salem Church and remained a member until her death. She attended Taylor Community School in Taylor, MS.

Martha was united in matrimony to Roy Lee Carothers and to this union five children were born. After his death, she remarried Ross Jones, whom also preceded her in death. “Feet,” as she was affectionately called by her family, liked to cook but really enjoyed gardening and fishing in her spare time.

On Tuesday, April 6, 2021, Martha departed her earthly life at her home in Oxford, MS.

Left to cherish her memories are her children Marvin Carrothers, Bobby Carrothers, Martha Carrothers, and Martha Jean Driver all of Oxford, MS; 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild; siblings, Earnest Lee Townsend of Indianapolis, IN and Rosie Lee Jones of Oxford, MS, and a host of other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by one son, Leroy Carrothers, one brother, Jimmy Townsend, and three sisters, Betty Vaughn, Mary Vaughn, and Sue Ivy.
